Tips to avoid foodborne illnesses at festivals and fairs

Posted on July 17, 2016 2:48 pm under Food Defects

Instances foodborne illness increases over the summer because food safety measures are not always as readily available as they are during the cooler months, particularly when cooking and dining outside and especially at fairs and festivals.

Vendors at festivals are held to the same standards of food safety that restaurants are, but can more easily avoid these practices. There are a few ways to combat receiving bad food from a vendor:

  • Bring your own food – this is a healthy and cost-efficient way to still enjoy festivities. If you’re planning on bringing your own food, you should follow safety measures of your own. Bring coolers and eat hot food while it is still hot.
  • If you must buy from a vendor, choose healthy options – you can also try to find vendors with cleaner work-stations, sinks, and refrigerators.
  • Fair organizers should provide trained personnel in terms of food safety.

If you became ill at a festival or fair due to improper food care techniques, you may be eligible for compensation. Contact our lawyers of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® at (414) 271-0900 as soon as possible, even if you’ve recovered from your illness.
