Woman sues her doctor after they told her she couldn’t get pregnant

Michigan mother, Lori Cichewicz, is suing her doctor for her unplanned pregnancy. She had gone to her doctor in 2008 for a procedure called tubal ligation, which would’ve rendered her completely unable to have children. Cichewicz’s doctor told her that her tubes were already blocked and there was no chance she could get pregnant, meaning she would be able to stop all forms of birth control and not have to pay for the procedure. She became pregnant and gave birth three years later.

“This is really very close to a medical malpractice case,” said legal analyst Charlie Langton. Cichewicz is now 50 and is raising a child with Down’s Syndrome, and she is seeking damages for emotional distress. The trial for this case should go before a jury later this year.
