Mount Pleasant Police and South Shore Firefighters responded to a deadly house fire that occurred around 11:00 pm on July 1, in the 6600 Block of Durand Avenue in the Village of Mount Pleasant in Racine.

Dark, black smoke was coming out of the building when the officers and firefighters arrived and all of Durand Avenue was shut down while they battled the fire. While the fire was being extinguished, firefighters found a deceased resident in the home, whose death was immediately linked to the fire. There was no immediate reason for the fire to have started and the investigation is ongoing.
