The body of a man Lake Delton Police had been searching for was found in the Wisconsin River Thursday morning, July 14.

The drowned man and a woman had been near Newport Beach around 8 a.m. when the man went into the water and disappeared. The two had been at a party the night before, so Police Chief Dan Hardman said he believed alcohol was a factor. The Sauk County Sheriff’s dive team found the man around 4 hours after he disappeared around the River’s Edge Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

“A lot of people really don’t understand that rivers are very dangerous and the currents are very swift,” Hardman says. Hardman said the drowned man was the first case in a long time, as Newport Beach has posted signs warning swimmers about the heavy current.
