A 62-year-old Madison woman was killed by a truck driver on Friday morning, July 15, as she was riding her bicycle on Highway 14 in Cross Plains, according to the Dane County Sheriff.

The Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 9:07 a.m. call about an accident about a mile west of Stage Coach Road. The bicyclist was westbound on the shoulder of the road when the pickup truck veered off the road and hit her. She was taken to UW Hospital and pronounced dead. While the investigation is still ongoing, deputies reported that distracted driving is likely to be a factor.

Accidents involving bicycle riders and pedestrians are often more detrimental than accidents between two other vehicles. The attorneys at Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® believe that tragic accidents like these, caused by distracted driving, are reprehensible and our thoughts go out to the victim and her loved ones.
