Law enforcement officials in Wausau will join a nationwide campaign in apprehending vehicle drivers who are under the influence of intoxicants, an article of Wausau Daily Herald reported on August 8.
According to reports, Wausau authorities will be part of “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” a movement set to run from August 19 until September 5. The campaign, initiated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is attempting to mitigate incidents of drunk driving accidents that occur every day. Lieutenant Andrew Hartwig told reporters that Wausau Police will deploy more personnel and for an extended duration during the dates listed in an attempt to apprehend all drunk drivers before they can inflict harm on other motorists. Last year alone, the Wisconsin DOT revealed that 190 persons were killed in drunk driving accidents on Wisconsin roads.
