A fatal crash happened on Sunday night, August 14, at around 11:30 on I-39/90 SB near Edgerton. One person is dead and eight others were injured.
The driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Venture was driving south and lost control, driving offroad into the median and colliding with the wire guard. The van swerved back out of the median and stopped completely in the right lane, its passenger side entirely exposed to oncoming traffic. The lights had stopped working following the initial impact.
Another southbound van, a Dodge Sprinter, was driving at highway speeds and could not see the disabled vehicle until it was too late, hitting it along the passenger side.
Eight passengers from the two vans were taken to Mercy Hospital with injuries and the driver of the Venture was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver only needed minor treatment from an EMS at the scene but was immediately released. The highway was closed for several hours while an investigation was underway.
