Sagent Pharmaceuticals recalls one lot of injectable Oxacillin

As of August 18, 2016, Sagent Pharmaceuticals, Inc. voluntarily recalled the Astral SteriTech Private Limited manufactured Oxacillin, which is in injection form. The recall stems from one complaint when a solid particle appeared in a vial after rehydration. The particle was later identified as iron oxide.

The distributor warned that presence of metal in injectable medicine could lead to major adverse side effects – swelling of the injection area and blockage of blood vessels, which can cause strokes, heart attacks, or respiratory, kidney, or liver failure.

The product was sold in packages of bottles marked with NDC 25021-163-99 and Lot OXT512. Hospitals, wholesalers, and national distributors were given the Oxacillin for prescription-only resell or use.
