Fire & Burn Hazard: Polaris Recalls RZR XP Turbo ROVs

As of September 01, 2016, Polaris Industries Inc., of Medina, Minnesota recalled all 2016 models of Polaris RZR XP Turbo and RZR XP 4 Turbo recreational off-highway vehicles due to the risk of fire and subsequent burn hazards.

Product details: Around 13,000 units of blue, gray, orange, or red ROVs that have two or four seats and a rear box. “RZR” is printed on the rear box or on the right and left rear fenders and “Turbo” on the hood or on the right and left front fenders. The product was sold between August of last year and this July at nationwide Polaris dealerships.

Risk: The turbo system’s drain tube can loosen and leak into the engine, which tends to overheat, which causes fires. So far, there have been 19 reports of fire and six reports of burns, one of which was a child—the same vehicle’s fire destroyed 15 acres of forest in Utah’s American Fork Canyon.

Remedy: Consumers are urged to discontinue use of their ROVs and contact Polaris for a free repair and extension on the warranty.
