Early Saturday morning, September 17, the occupant of a home was awoken by the sound of fire alarms and when he went to look for the source of the noise, he found dark smoke coming out of the basement.
The occupant placed a call to the fire department around 3:30 a.m. for his home at 314 E. Spooner Road. There was heavy smoke throughout the home but the fire was localized to the basement when the crew arrived. Preliminary investigation revealed that a dehumidifier may have led to the start of the fire, but the exact cause is still unknown.
No one was injured in the fire, including both occupants, their pets, and all responding rescue crews. Any fire and water damage was in the basement, but smoke damage in the rest of the home tallied the total damage at $50,000.
