An automobile collision along Highway 12 near Cambridge killed one person on Friday morning, October 7.

The accident was reported to deputies 4:30 a.m., which involved a semi and a pickup truck at Rodney Road. The investigation revealed that the Ford F150 pickup had been traveling eastward on Highway 12 when it crossed into the westbound lane, hitting the semi truck head-on.

Kyle Clay of Whitewater was the 24-year-old pickup driver and was pronounced found to be dead shortly after the arrival of emergency crews. Michael J. Furbringer, a 44-year-old from Elkhorn, was the driver of the semi truck. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to UW Hospital. The Dane County Medical Examiner said the cause of Clay’s death was from injuries he sustained in the crash. Highway 12 has been closed for almost 7 hours and was reopened around 11:30 a.m.

The Dane County Medical Examiner confirmed that the cause of Clay’s death was directly related to his injuries from the accident and police shut down Highway 12 for nearly seven hours while the investigation continued.
