A man was found trapped beneath his pickup truck after it had rolled over several times on Saturday, October 15.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office suspects that the victim, 40-year-old Gage Abrahams, had been traveling north of W Butts Corners Rd. on US-14, headed north through Union Township. The vehicle swerved slightly off the right side of the road, striking a ditch and sending the truck out of control. The truck was airborne for a moment before it flipped several times and came to a rest.
Abrahams had been only partially removed from the vehicle during the incident and ended up with his torso stuck underneath the vehicle. He was brought to the UW Hospital via Med-Flight with life-threatening injuries, though officials do expect him to pull through.
Officers are considering speed, alcohol, and marijuana as likely contributing factors to the accident. Abrahams is facing charges for a thrid-offense OWI, possession of marijuana, and not wearing a seat belt.
With good reason, the law stipulates that a driver not be intoxicated while operating a vehicle as crashes involving such intoxicated drivers are often more dangerous.
