Fire departments rescued trapped residents in Whitewater fire

Posted on November 10, 2016 11:51 am under Fires and Explosions

A four-alarm fire broke out at a Whitewater apartment building on Wednesday, November 9, just before 7:00 that evening.

The Fort Atkinson Fire Department was the first to be called, of nearly 28 responding departments, and arrived quickly to the Tratt Street building called the University Garden Apartments. One interviewed neighbor, Christopher Swanson, claimed that a sound like gunshots went off, followed by a large “boom”. Other residents and neighbors tell a similar story, saying the sound was followed by the appearance of smoke.

Though people were initially trapped on the second floor of the complex, the Whitewater Fire Department safely evacuated them and was able to report no injuries.
