Ridley Block Operations announced yesterday that it is conducting a nationwide recall of single batch Ultralyx 24% + 3% Mag Composite Block due to non-protein nitrogen (NPN) risks. This is a feed mixture for cattle.
According to an announcement posted on FDA website, the Ultralyx 24% + 3% Mag Composite Block contains high level of NPN which are potentially harmful to beef cattle. The FDA says that beef cattle exposed to the animal feed may lose the ability to move and may eventually die within four hours if left untreated. The feeds included in the recall bear a batch number HB01088454 and item number 10636. It was sold in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia and could have possibly been resold to further individuals.
The company is urging cattle farmers to discontinue use of the feed and return the affected items to the place of purchase. To date, a total of nine deaths related to the issue have been reported.
