A high-speed police chase ended with a fatal crash this morning.
According to reports, a Polk County Sheriff’s Office officer tried to pull over a vehicle at around 2:40 a.m. Instead of stopping, the vehicle continued on, leading to a high-speed chase. While approaching Highway 46, the vehicle swerved off the road and overturned. The impact of the collision ejected the driver, killing him in the process. No identification has been released.
Two passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries that are considered non-life threatening. They were transported to Saint Croix Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Investigators were called onto the scene. Preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt during the incident.
