One killed in snowmobile crash

An unidentified man died following a fatal snowmobile accident on Trail 6 along Vandercook Road in Arbor Vitae, last Tuesday December 27.

At around 8:30 at night, the Vilas County patrol officers were dispatched to Arbor Vitae after receiving a report of a crash involving a snowmobile. According to the report, a snowmobile was traveling on a marked snowmobile trail when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into a tree. Initial investigation shows the snowmobile operator was following other drivers when the accident took place. The impact of the crash killed the driver of the snowmobile. He was identified only as a 63-year-old resident of East Moline. No name was released pending notification of the victim’s family.
