A high-speed police chase ended up killing one driver in the Village of Luck on Friday, December 30.
Early Friday, a Polk County sheriff’s deputy officer saw a pickup truck veer off the roadway and eventually enter the roadway again. As the officer pursued the truck, it then crashed on a state highway.
The impact of the collision ejected the driver from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by local paramedics. Authorities later identified him as a 22-year-old Amery resident. Two more occupants of the truck sustained injuries that were not considered serious. It was not confirmed if they were transported to a local hospital.
Wisconsin State Patrol and the St. Croix Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene to investigate the crash. Based on preliminary investigations, the pickup truck driver was not wearing a seat belt when the accident took place.
No arrests have been made as investigation is still in progress.
