IVC filters are medical devices used in patients who are at risk for developing blood clots, possibly as the result of trauma caused by an accident or another medical event. The filters are surgically implanted in the inferior vena cava, and are designed to catch blood clots before they reach the lungs and cause pulmonary embolism.
Bard’s G2 IVC Filter has been associated with many serious complications in patients. The device’s spider-like legs can break off, or the filter itself travels to other parts of the body where it may cause damage leading to serious and in some cases fatal injuries.
If you have a defective IVC filter you may have symptoms such as severe pain, difficulty breathing and headache; complications include internal bleeding, perforation of blood vessels and internal organs, and other life-threatening events.
