Law Enforcement Receives New Buckle-Up Tool

Posted on December 19, 2007 5:12 am under Personal Injury

The law enforcement officials in the Green Bay area have a new tool to encourage people to buckle up whenever they are in a car. AAA of Wisconsin donated a “seat belt convincer” to the area’s police to show people exactly how much a seatbelt can help in the event of an accident.

A Seat Belt Convincer is a life-size model of a car’s passenger area that can be made to roll. There are dummies in the car that either go flying without a seatbelt on or stay put if the seatbelt is on when the model is made to roll.

When the seatbelts are not used to strap the dummies into the car, they go flying out the windows of the vehicle or are crushed by the actual vehicle. Police in the area say that one of the most common ways people die in car accidents is by being thrown from the car. Of the fatal accidents in 2005, 75% of people ejected during their accident died.
