Crocs Footwear Blamed For Escalator Injuries

Posted on February 7, 2008 10:02 am under Personal Injury

A $7 million lawsuit filed recently claims that Crocs footwear was responsible for causing severe injuries to a 3-year-old girl’s foot when it caught on an escalator. The suit, filed on behalf of Emma Hochberg in Brooklyn Federal Court, claims that Crocs knew that their soft foam shoes were prone to becoming caught in escalators and failed to adequately warn consumers of the danger. Andrew Laskin, counsel for the plaintiff, said that many similar incidents of Crocs shoes getting stuck in escalators have been reported across the country. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) was not immediately able to comment on the number of incident reports it had received.

A spokeswoman for Crocs responded that the company takes safety “very seriously” and is investigating the incident.
