Ford drivers should be careful to check whether or not their vehicle is a part of a massive recall initiated by Ford. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warn that Ford vehicle models listed in the recall should be returned to auto dealers so that the cruise control switch defect can be fixed.
According to NHTSA representatives, the cruise control defect may cause fires. The recall covers Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury cars and trucks from the years of 1992 through 2004. An agency spokesperson noted that fires may occur when the autos are being driven or even when they are parked. Sixty people have come forward to report cruise control switch fires from August to February of last year.
The repair is simple and it is encouraged that Ford owners carefully check the list of affected vehicles to ensure that they are safe from possible fires.
