Milwaukee Man in Court After Fatal Crash

A Milwaukee man who was involved in a fatal car accident in Wheaton had a bond hearing Wednesday in Chippewa County Court.

According to the Chippewa County district attorney’s office, 26 year-old James C. Heath was released on $5,000 signature bond. Heath is required to stay in Chippewa or Eau Claire County and was ordered not to consume alcohol. No formal charges have been filed yet in the case.

Heath was driving a 2005 Pontiac south on County Highway T shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday when the crash occurred. Heath struck the back of a tractor-trailer and then collided with a northbound Mazda nearly head-on. Heath survived the crash, but his passenger, 26 year-old Shawn M. Sillman, of Eau Claire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed and alcohol are considered to be factors in the crash, police say. A report of Heath’s blood-alcohol content at the time of the crash has not been released.
