Several students were injured Monday in a school bus accident in Milwaukee.

According to officials with the Milwaukee Fire Department, the accident occurred near 29th Street and Elder Wallace Drive, just north of Center Street on the city’s north side. Witnesses say the bus was attempting to turn when it was struck by a silver SUV.

The driver of the SUV, whose name has not been released, was quoted saying: “I was coming down Fond du Lac [Avenue] on the right hand side and I guess he didn’t want to wait for traffic and decided he was going to come across traffic and turn.”

Several children were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries following the crash.

The driver of the SUV says no citations were issued in the accident. Milwaukee police have not confirmed her claim.
