IKEA Issues Recall of Glass Mugs Amid Reports of Lacerations

Posted on February 23, 2011 4:36 am under Product Liability

IKEA, the Canadian government, and the U.S. government issued a voluntary recall of RUND brand clear glass mugs, which could shatter during use and cause lacerations.

The glass mugs have a double wall design and Ikea says the inner wall can break posing a laceration threat. The recall was issued after a consumer reported a serious laceration which required immediate medical attention. Eleven similar incidents have been reported outside the U.S.

The recall affects approximately 13,000 mugs in the U.S. and another 115,000 worldwide. The mugs were handmade and sold in IKEA stores between October 2009 and March 2010. Consumers may return the glasses to an IKEA store for a full refund.

This is the second recall IKEA has initiated since the beginning of the year. The company issued a recall for more than 26,000 defective cribs in early February.
