Two people who were injured by falling glass at the W Hotel in Austin have filed a premises liability lawsuit against the company.
According to court documents, two people were struck by falling glass from the hotel’s balconies earlier this month. The hotel was closed indefinitely Wednesday after three additional glass panes fell from the building.
The incident took place on June 10 and left four people injured, two of whom are listed in the lawsuit. Attorney Randy Howry, who is representing the plaintiffs, says his clients suffered cuts, bruises, and abrasions from the falling glass, as well as wounds that required stitches. Howry claims the hotel chain was aware of problems with the windows, citing a May incident at a W Hotel in Atlanta where one woman was killed and another injured.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts, the W’s parent company, released the names of five companies who worked on the hotel, including the balconies, specifically. Company officials declined to comment on the lawsuit.
