Wisconsin sexual assault centers experience funding cuts

Posted on December 6, 2011 1:40 pm under Sexual Assault

There are 43 centers across the state of Wisconsin that aid victims of sexual assault. The cut in funding to these types of centers was a drastic 42.5 percent for the 2012 year.

According to centers across the state, they were told that the cut would be in the 10 percent range, so news of the 42.5 percent cut came as a shock. One main area that this will affect will be the determination of who will be able to receive treatment at the centers.

The cuts to the Sexual Assault Victim Services program was necessary according to the Department of Justice. The decrease in funding will help balance diminishing revenue from criminal surcharges.
