An 11-year-old boy was walking near train tracks on his way to school in Wauwatosa when he was fatally injured after a train struck him.
The train accident happened around 7:25 a.m. when the boy, a sixth grader, was walking to class and crossing over the train tracks. The train conductor was passing through the Milwaukee suburb when he noticed the young boy on the tracks. He signaled all of the warning sirens, but was unable to stop before striking the young boy.
Officials have said that the young boy was wearing headphones at the time of the collision, and therefore did not hear the oncoming train. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police are investigating the crash, but said that the crossing gates were down at the time of the incident.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
