St. Patrick’s Day fell on a Saturday this year, and police officers in Milwaukee were prepared to handle the increase in drunk driving incidents across the county. Within 24 hours, police and other enforcement officers handed out 223 tickets.
There were 30 individuals arrested for alleged drunk driving this year in Milwaukee, with the average blood alcohol level being 0.14. The highest BAC recorded on St. Patrick’s Day was 0.21, and four people who were arrested for driving under the influence had previously been convicted of the same offense.
The arrests and tickets occurred between 6 a.m. on Saturday morning and 6 a.m. on Sunday morning. The Milwaukee police increased patrols over the weekend in order to deter individuals from getting behind the wheel after celebrating the holiday with alcohol.
