On Tuesday, a fatal collision on Interstate 43 in downtown Milwaukee claimed the life of a Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy.
The accident occurred at about 12:15 p.m. on the southbound side of the highway. The officer, an 18-year veteran, was driving a service truck when he struck another vehicle on the same side of the highway. The sheriff was pronounced dead at the scene of the automobile accident, and no other injuries were reported.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. Authorities are still working on a reconstruction of the accident scene, and their investigation is ongoing.
This officer was the first in Milwaukee County to die in the line of duty since 2000, when two officers were killed in a helicopter crash.
We would like to offer our condolences to the sheriff’s family and friends during this tragic time.
