A man was severely burned in an explosion that affected his house in Florence County earlier this month.

The 63-year-old man was found by the responders with serious facial burns and burns affecting the lower portion of his body. The only thing the victim said is that he had been trying to light his wood burning fireplace before the explosion blew out the south wall of his home around 10 am.

The victim was rushed to Dickinson County Hospital and was later airlifted to another hospital for additional medical treatment.
