Veteran journalist Michael Hastings, whose works graced the pages of Rolling Stone, GQ, and Newsweek magazines, was killed in a car crash in Los Angeles on June 18.
In a statement released by editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed Ben Smith, 33-year-old Hastings, who wrote a feature in Rolling Stone magazine that led to the resignation of former U.S. commander in chief in Afghanistan, Stanley McChrystal, was reportedly killed in a car accident. No other supporting details confirming his death were released by Smith.
Police said they received an earlier report of a car crash that occurred near Hollywood on June 17, in which a man was badly burned after his car slammed to a tree.
Smith said he was shocked by Hastings’ sudden death.
