A jury recently ordered Toyota Motors Corp. to pay $3 million total to those directly affected by the mechanical defects that caused a sudden acceleration accident. The acceleration accident caused injuries to Jean Bookout and killed Barbara Schwarz.
The Oklahoma County jury that found Toyota guilty of reckless disregard claimed that Toyota knowingly compromised consumer safety when they released defective vehicles. Despite this allegation, Toyota claims that safety is a top priority.
Safety advocate, Sean Kane said that he hopes this particular court case causes consumers to be wary of the company that they choose when they buy a car.
