Hundreds of children poisoned by detergent pods

Posted on November 11, 2014 10:42 am under Product Liability

Researchers recently reported that over 700 young children in the U.S. were treated for accidental exposure to multicolored pods that contain concentrated liquid detergent, SFGATE reported on November 10.

According to reports, children chewed on or otherwise exposed themselves to the hazardous liquid because the detergent pods look like colorful candy or toys. One unknowing grandmother gave it to a teething baby because it is a similar consistency to gel teething toys. Since the detergent was released in 2012, at least one child was reportedly killed and hundreds of poisoning incidents occurred. The researchers claimed that detergent manufacturers’ efforts to re-design the colorful pods were, for the most part, ineffective.
