Diagnosing Legionnaire’s disease

Posted on November 20, 2014 11:28 am under Legionnaires' Disease

Legionnaire’s disease is a serious type of pneumonia caused by Legionella, a type of aerobic bacteria that can be contracted by inhaling mist from contaminated water sources. Legionella can breed in high numbers in under-maintained whirlpool spas, hotel pools, and air conditioning system. Unfortunately, some property owners fail to ensure that every facility in their establishment is well-maintained and free from the risk of Legionnaires’ outbreak.

Individuals suspected to have Legionnaire’s disease may undergo one or more of these tests to diagnose this condition and rule-out other respiratory diseases:

  • Spinal tap or computerized tomography (CT) scan – To confirm Legionnaire’s disease among individuals experiencing neurological symptoms
  • Blood tests
  • Sputum or lung tissue tests

If you believe your exposure to Legionella has been the result of another party’s failure to ensure safety in the premises they own, speak with an attorney at Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ®.
