The dangers of recto-vaginal fistulas

Posted on December 16, 2014 11:27 am under Product Liability

Recto-vaginal fistulas refer to tunnels that abnormally connect the rectum and the vagina. Possible causes of recto-vaginal fistulas are difficult labor and underlying medical conditions. In some instances, however, they can result from invasive pelvic injuries involving transvaginal mesh.

Because the abnormal passage that connects the rectum and the vagina allows fecal matter to leak into the vagina, there are many possible health complications that may arise from this condition, including:

  • Vaginal discharge, oftentimes with foul odor
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Vaginal and perineal irritation
  • Infection of the fistula
  • Incontinence

At the Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ®, we help victims of defective transvaginal mesh seek justice and compensation through legal claims against the manufacturer involved. To learn more about how we can be of help, call our Madison office at (414) 271-0900 today.
