The prevalence of escalator incidents in the U.S.

Posted on January 19, 2015 11:47 am under Premises Liability

Escalators can be seen in almost any establishment – schools, malls, hospitals, offices, and more. In fact, studies have shown that approximately 33,000 escalators are operating in the country, and about 10,000 escalator-related accidents are recorded each year.

In a study published by Consumer Product Safety Commission in 2008, most non-work injuries associated with escalators were fall-related. However, 10% of these injuries occurred due to the entrapment of hands, feet, or shoes.

Although the figures above reveal that escalator-related incidents are not uncommon, accidents involving this transport machine may have been prevented if the property owner had performed regular maintenance and repairs on the machine to ensure the safety of the premises. If you have been involved in an injurious escalator accident in Wisconsin, a premises liability attorney at Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® might be able to help you seek the compensation you believe you deserve.
