Gonnella Baking Company recalls bread products for undeclared whey

Gonnella Baking Company of Illinois announced a voluntary safety recall of their Jewel brand Gourmet Sandwich Rolls and Gonnella brand Sub Buns after learning about undeclared milk serum whey, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration published on its website on January 21.

The affected products are 20 oz. Jewel brand Gourmet Sandwich Rolls with product code 11563 and 20 oz. Gonnella brand Sub Buns with product code 15840, both packaged in clear plastic bags. The recalled products were manufactured between 12-9-2014 and 1-17-2015, and bear the “Best Buy” date of 1-25-2015. Products were sold in retail stores in Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Undeclared milk derivatives may cause serious allergic reactions among those allergic to milk. The company advised everyone to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.
