Mirka orbital sanders recalled due to fire risk

Mirka Abrasives issued a voluntary safety recall of approximately 574 units of Mirka CEROS compact electric random orbital sanders after receiving reports that the defective units may short circuit, increasing the risk of fire, a report by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated on January 29.

The recalled units were yellow and black in color with the Mirka logo on the front and were sold at different stores nationwide, including online retailers like Amazon.com and Beavertools.com, between March and November 2014. The affected models and their serial numbers are:

  • CEROS550 – 345231326001 to 345231326023, 345331326001 to 345331326025, 401528672001 to 401528672080, and 402228672001 to 402228672016
  • CEROS650 – 401428673001 to 401428673070, and 401528673001 to 401528673026

Additionally, units with the following model and serial numbers that were sent to Mirka Authorized Repair Center from February 24, 2014 to December 26, 2014 are also being recalled:

  • CEROS550 – 241328672025 to 417528672091, CNM25465 to VUU35621
  • CEROS650 – 334328673009 to 401428673070, CNM25731 to VVU66448
  • CEROS680 – CLA47198 to VLA38835
