Are there any exemptions for Hours of Service regulations?

Posted on February 4, 2015 2:27 pm under Truck Accident

Hours of Service (HOS) are rules issued by the federal government that limit driving hours for truck drivers. HOS regulations aim to restrict the number of hours commercial truck drivers can work on a daily basis to make sure they have ample rest periods. Generally, most drivers driving property-carrying and passenger-carrying commercial motor vehicles must comply with the provisions.

The State of Wisconsin places a very narrow exemption on the HOS rules. Below are some of the few drivers where HOS regulations do not apply:

  • Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or less
  • Authorized emergency vehicles
  • Tow trucks that operate under an authorized order from a law enforcement officer
