Keeping your stair surface slip-free

Posted on February 10, 2015 12:57 pm under Premises Liability

A slippery stair surface is a common cause of stair-related accidents. Water spots, spilled liquid, debris, and defective non-skid mats all contribute to unsafe stairways. These hazards, however, are always preventable if the property owner or manager chooses to take precautions to keep the stairs slip-free.

To keep your stairs safe from slips, here are a few suggestions:

  • Always keep the stair surface dry
  • Recoat slippery floors with abrasive strips, or abrasive-filled paint to improve stair safety
  • Broken stair surface should be replaced immediately
  • For non-recoated stair surface, consider installing non-slippery mats or flooring
