A Minnesota man died after his snowmobile crashed into trees in northwestern Wisconsin on Saturday night, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday, February 3.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased man as Robert Kaye, 70, of Afton, Minnesota. The report said Kaye was driving his snowmobile in Gordon, Wisconsin, when his vehicle went off the track and came crashing into the trees. Reports said Kaye died on the scene. His snowmobiling group only became aware of the snowmobile accident after Kaye failed to show up at a checkpoint.

Investigation to determine the details and underlying causes surrounding this tragic incident is being conducted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the medical examiner’s office, and the sheriff’s office.
