Plastic push toys recalled over choking risk

Posted on February 16, 2015 4:25 pm under Product Liability

Around 660 Airplane and butterfly push toys imported by the LS Import of Houston, TX, are being recalled after learning that small components of the toys may detach and pose a choking risk to young children, a report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stated on February 5.

According to the report, the recalled airplane push toy has wheels that might detach and pose a choking risk among kids. Meanwhile, the butterfly push toy has pink plastic balls attached to the butterfly’s two antennas. These plastic pieces may detach and could cause choking when put in the mouth.

Consumers are advised not to allow children to play with the toys and to contact LS Import for refund details.

Choking hazard due to defective toys remains among the top causes of hospitalizations and death among young children in the country. However, this could have been prevented if toy manufacturers had not been negligent in ensuring that their products were manufactured within safety standards.
