A Lindenhurst engineer recently claimed that he suffered second and third-degree burn injuries to his leg after his iPhone 5C ruptured inside his pants pocket, a CNN article reported on March 5.

According to Erik Johnson, on February 14 his iPhone produced extreme heat as it ruptured inside his pocket. The incident reportedly happened after he bent over to pick up car keys that he dropped. Johnson said he tore his pants off as the phone began melting his pocket together. Reports confirmed that Johnson spent 10 days in the hospital while being treated for a leg burn injury around the size of a football. After being discharged from the hospital, Johnson was confined to home with a nurse visiting him to change his bandage every day. The incident is being investigated by Apple Inc.

Injuries are accompanied by more than physical pain; lost wages from missing work, treatment expenses, and other damages can result in an accumulating financial burden.
