Listeria contamination risk prompts Superior Foods Inc. spinach recall

Posted on April 1, 2015 4:47 pm under Defective Food Product

California-based food supplier Superior Foods Inc. issued a recall of 8,475 cases of spinach food items after receiving a notice from its supplier that they may have been supplied with organic spinach that is contaminated with Listeria, according to a press statement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on March 24.

The recalled products include some lots of Simply Balanced 10-oz Frozen Organic Chopped Spinach packed in bags and sold at different Target retail stores nationwide. Although no reports have been associated with the issue, the food company initiated the nationwide voluntary recall out of caution.

Affected customers are asked to return the recalled product to the point of purchase for a free product replacement or full refund.

Listeria-contaminated food products could cause harm to children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, and may also cause miscarriages in pregnant women.
