Authorities say a 53-year-old construction worker was hurt in a road construction incident that happened near the Wisconsin River, WEAU reported on March 31.

Rothschild police reported that at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, a hard hat working on an area of Highway 29 west in Rothschild suffered leg injuries after a beam fell and pinned him. He was transported to a hospital in Wasau for treatment. Details about his current condition were not readily available.

Construction incidents like this could result from so many factors: a defective power tool, poorly-inspected scaffolding, the absence of fall protection, and substandard safety equipment. However, many construction accidents could have been prevented if the party responsible for the accident had not been negligent in ensuring that the workplace was safe and free of any hazard.
