Thousands of hummus products recalled by Sabra over Listeria risk

Posted on April 12, 2015 11:28 am under Defective Food Product

About 30,000 units of Sabra Dipping Co., LLC’s Classic Hummus were recalled after the company learned that the affected products might contain Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen that can cause illness especially to vulnerable populations, a report by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration stated on April 8.

The company learned about the possible contamination after a random sampling conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Five UPC/SKUs are affected by the recall: 040822011143/300067, 040822014687/300074, 0408222342049/301216, 040822017497/301290, and 040822342209/301283. Consumers were advised to return the affected products to the point of sale for a full refund.

Hospitalization and lost time at work are just some of the many repercussions brought about by contaminated food products.
