Undeclared allergen prompts food producer to recall its meat products

Posted on April 13, 2015 11:52 am under Defective Food Product

Chicago-based La Guadalupana Wholesale Co., Inc., has issued a consumer-level recall of about 34,932 pounds of chicken and pork tamale products after learning about an undeclared food ingredient that may cause an allergic reaction in those sensitive to it, the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) revealed on April 8.

The affected products contain egg whites, which are not listed on the product label. All of the affected products have an establishment number “EST, 21094” or P-21094” printed inside USDA’s inspection mark. The recalled products were distributed to several U.S. states, including Wisconsin. The issue was discovered during a routine inspection by in-plant FSIS personnel.

Consumers highly sensitive to egg whites are advised not to consume the product and to contact a healthcare provider if they experience any adverse reaction from eating the food item.
