Keeping your children safe from lead

Posted on May 3, 2015 10:17 am under Product Liability

Toxic amounts of lead have been well-associated with cases of behavioral disorders, low IQ, learning difficulties, and hearing disorders among children exposed to it. Although houses painted before 1978 might contain higher amount of lead, there are many other possible sources of this poisonous trace element, including children’s toys.

To keep your children from being exposed to toxic amounts of lead, follow these simple safety tips:

  • Teach your kids the importance of hand washing; hand washing reduces the risk of lead toxicity by eliminating contaminants that may contain lead.
  • Wash their toys regularly; toys that have been exposed to soil and sand might be contaminated with lead.
  • Ensure that the toys you buy are lead-free; some manufacturers refuse to withdraw toys that contain lead from the market shelves, and so keeping abreast with the latest toy recalls would help keep your children safe from this hazard.

At Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ®, we believe that negligent toy manufacturers should be held legally and financially accountable if their products caused undue harm to a child. To learn more about filing a product liability claim, call our Wisconsin office at (414) 271-0900 today.
