IKEA crib mattresses recalled due to fears of entrapment

Posted on May 10, 2015 11:48 am under Defective Child Care Products

IKEA issued a nationwide voluntary recall of certain IKEA SULTAN and VYSSA crib mattresses after learning about a gap between the crib and the mattress large enough to pose an entrapment risk to infants, according to a report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on May 1.

The company has already received two reports of babies being trapped between the crib and the mattress. The recall covers certain models of IKEA SULTAN and VYSSA, which were sold between October 2000 and May 2014 at different IKEA stores nationwide.

Approximately 300,000 mattresses are covered by the recall. Affected consumers are advised to check if the gap between the mattress and the crib is larger than the width of two fingers. If so, they should stop using the product and return it to the nearest IKEA outlet for a free replacement or a full refund.
