MSR recalls avalanche rescue snow shovels over malfunction issue

Posted on May 18, 2015 9:28 am under Product Liability

About 4,300 avalanche rescue snow shovels are being recalled by camping, hiking, and mountaineering equipment producer Mountain Safety Research (MSR) after learning that the button at the lower back of the shovel’s shaft may fail to hold the blade in place, causing it not to function as intended during emergency situations, the U.S. Consumer Safety Product Commission (CPSC) reported on May 12.

The recalled avalanche rescue snow shovels are sold under three names: Mountain Safety Research Operator™ T, Operator™ D,  and Responder™. The products were made available between October 2014 and January 2015 online and at different recreation sports stores nationwide. Affected customers may return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Recalled products may also be returned to MSR for a free replacement shaft.
